OpenAI is reportedly working with TSMC and Broadcom to construct an in-home AI chip — and beginning to make exhaust of AMD chips alongside Nvidia’s to coach its AI.
Reuters studies that OpenAI has — as a minimal for now — abandoned plans to construct a network of factories for chip manufacturing. In its build, the corporate will focal level on in-home chip invent. OpenAI has for months been working with Broadcom to kill an AI chip for running units, which could perhaps near as soon as 2026, studies Reuters.
Within the intervening time, OpenAI plans to make exhaust of AMD chips by Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform for mannequin coaching. Beforehand, the corporate relied nearly completely on Nvidia GPUs for coaching, but chip shortages and delays — and the high cost of coaching — bear spurred OpenAI to get selections, per Reuters.
